Laws of Success

Brad’s “Laws of Success”
Over the years, through many trials and tribulations, I’ve discovered a set of “rules†that tend to set me on the right path to success… in anything that I decide to do. I’ve decided to compile all of these into a simple format for all to see.
They’ll give you the same great insight that they’ve given me… guaranteed.
Here are Brad’s “Laws of Success†(in no particular order):
- Don’t bitch - This one’s pretty tough to abide by and I find myself breaking it more than I’d like to admit. The simple fact is that complaining about your life or a specific situation is the biggest waste of time and nothing constructive EVER comes out of it. Plus, you tend to get yourself into this self defeating prophecy by all of the negative energy you keep stirring up.
- Don’t assume – Whenever I begin to critique workouts or people’s progress in general, I always attack their assumptions first. Over ninety percent of the time, the assumptions are what have the person going in the wrong direction. Challenge your own assumptions often or if you are at a sticking
point. Ask yourself, “What am I assuming here?†- Remove negativity from your life – This includes people as well. It is a well known fact that positively oriented people have better success than negatively oriented people. Also, you have to worry about the “crab in a bucket†phenomenon with negative people.
- Create your own luck – Luck happens when opportunity meets preparedness. In other words, if you are ready for “luckâ€, it will find you.
- You can’t change people, they can only change themselves – We all try to help people, it’s our nature. However, people cannot be helped unless they help themselves. This is the sole reason that I keep all of my best information in my paid materials. I’ve learned that people have to take certain steps themselves before they are going to be receptive to your teachings. Don’t try to force your will onto people that aren’t ready for it – you’re wasting your breath.
- Don’t be a windbag – We all know of the people that talk a big game, but never seem to get anywhere. It’s like the whole fun is to feed their egos of what they “are going to doâ€. Don’t be that person. Instead…
- Take action – Be a silent killer. Don’t tell everyone your ideas or plans.Â
- Pay for advice – I’ve learned that the hard way. Free advice is always the worst advice. Have you ever noticed that the people that tend to give the most relationship advice are also the ones that are the worst in relationships? Also, when you pay for something, you commit to it farther and are much more likely to actually do #7.
- Keep it simple – In the world of success, simple solutions beat complex solutions 98% of the time. Simplify, simplify, simplify. Get to the basics. Don’t worry about the exotic solutions because as a rule, the exotic solutions are “fly by nightâ€.
- Play to win – Be aggressive in what you do. Most people in life play “not to lose†or they “half ass†things. Don’t have one foot in and one foot out. You’ll lose everytime. If you are going to do something, do it hardcore style… and be relentless.
- Focus on one thing at a time – Multitasking is the worst concept ever invented. Prioritize and conquer… prioritize and conquer.
- Expand your limits – If you are uncomfortable speaking in front of people, join Toastmasters. If you are afraid of any type of confrontation, learn how to fight. Whatever makes you nervous or squeamish, scare it in the face and give it the middle finger.
- Play to your strengths – Don’t worry so much about improving your weaknesses. This isn’t the same as #12. Instead, you’ll find much more success improving your strengths. Remember, baseball players don’t practice football. If you are good as something, become great at it. If you suck at something… pay someone else to do it.
- An investment in yourself is money well spent – The return on investment on yourself is infinity. It cannot be measured. Never quit learning. The late Corey Rudl said, “Do you know what the difference between rich people and poor people is? Rich people have big libraries; poor people have big TV’s” Successful people are always investing in themselves.
- Understand the time/money ratio – Some people say that time equals money and they are right to a certain degree. I say time is much more valuable than money. You can’t get back time.  Once you spend it, it’s gone. How many people do you know that will drive all the way across town (15 minutes or more) to buy gas that’s 10 cents cheaper for a grand savings of a whole $1.50 per tank. Of course, in this example you are paid (save) a great big $6/hr on average for your drive. Congrats.
- Put your shopping cart away in the parking lot – I had to throw this in; it’s a pet peeve of mine. They aren’t that heavy.
- Don’t take yourself so seriously – Laugh at yourself. You are going to make mistakes. In fact, the faster you make mistakes, the faster you learn from them.
- Don’t blow your cool – If you really want to freak someone out the next time one of your subordinates does something stupid: remain calm. Most people expect to be chewed out or yelled at. Don’t. When you keep your cool, the effect of the “discussion†is amplified. Control is a powerful thing and it can have many constructive effects.
- Don’t lie – My father used to tell me, “Brad, don’t lie. It’s too much work. You always have to remember what you told someone.â€Â On that note, don’t lie to yourself either. If you can be honest with yourself… that’s the path.
- Allow people to tell you the truth – Just like you have a responsibility to tell the truth, you also have the responsibility to allow people to tell you the truth. Number 18 comes back into effect here. If you tend to go haywire everytime someone makes a mistake, it will be much harder to get the truth out of them. Always set the stage for people to tell you the truth. When your people don’t tell you the truth, it’s not their problem… it’s yours.
That’s it for now. I’m sure there are more “Laws to Successâ€. In fact, if you can think of any more, email me at brad(at)mindoverbodymatter.com and let me know.
Also, I’m thinking about starting a coaching program. I’m not sure about the format yet or if I have the time to do it. If you’d like to be a part of something like this, let me know. I need to know the kinds of things you all would like to learn about.
Finally, I have some bad news… my dog Spooky (a 170 lb Great Dane, English Mastiff mix) has just came out of remission again. He has lymphoma and I’ve already had him through chemotherapy once before (chemo’s not that aggressive in dogs). Anyway, I’m having to send him back to NC State (the vet school hospital there is second to none, I highly recommend them) for a second round.
But it’s not cheap.
Therefore, I am having a limited time “Cancer Saleâ€.
Here’s the deal, if you want my coveted “Weight Loss Black Ops†materials… I am going to allow you to test drive them for ONE DOLLAR.
That’s right, this test drive has a 7 day “hold†associated with it.Â
Download the materials and make sure that they are right for you. Once you see that they are, I’ll simply bill the balance of $36 to your card (or PayPal account) at the end of 7 days.
If they aren’t, just email me and I’ll cancel your billing with no hoops to jump through. I only ask that you give me some feedback as a courtesy. That’s the only restriction on my 7 day hold.
You can’t lose. (my one-year guarantee still applies as well)
Go to www.mindoverbodymatter.com and drop to the bottom of the page. There, find the secret “skeleton keyâ€. Click on it to go to the “Spooky Special†page. (or, you can just click here to order.
Enter your information and wham, you’re all set.
