What Are You Doing?
Posted by Brad under Fat Loss
“Honey… What in the @%#@ are you doing?”
Â
I knew the rest of the story wasn’t going to be pretty. In fact, it’s funny how many times I’ve heard similar stories. Â
Let me start from the beginning… hopefully you’ll never have a story like this to tell.
A few months ago, I was sitting in my office when a young lady walked into my office. She looked as if all hell had broke loose at home. Apparently, her worse fears had just come true.
In tears, she told me, “I just need to find someone that can appreciate me for me. I need to ask you a question?”
“Shoot,” I said.
“I know I’m overweight, but why is it that men don’t find me attractive? Where can I find someone that will love me and be attracted to me? Do you think it’s even possible…”
And in my rare moment of wisdom, I asked her, “I know that you are a little upset right now, but I need to ask you a question. I hope you don’t think this to be a cruel statement but, how many men with potbellies have you been attracted to in your life?”
“What?”
“Seriously… how many men have you been REALLY attracted to that had potbellies?”
“I KNEW you’d never understand… I can’t believe I even came to you… MEN!”
And she stormed out.Â
The next day, she came back in and apologized and we talked for a while about her weight problem. Six months later, she ended up in the best shape of her life.
So, you might ask, why did this woman come to me that day? What could possibly have upset her so much?
You see, “Penny” had just walked in on her husband and their next door neighbor “in the act.” Of course, the next door neighbor was one of those “workout queens” that every wife in the neighborhood loves to hate.
You know, the one that the men seem to always be checking out.
Anyway… she had felt things “slipping away” at home. She could feel how her husband just wasn’t attracted to her anymore. But, you know what, that was “his” problem in her eyes. After all, she was still the very same person inside. So what, she’d let herself go a little bit, okay, a lot…
For all it’s worth, she’s ending up better off without the bumb…
But, my comments about being attracted to potbellied men really hit home with her…
“You were right”
“About what?” I asked.
“About the potbellied men… I’ve never really been attracted to them.”
“I figured as much”
“So what do I need to do”, she asked.
“I’m assuming you’re talking about losing a little weight, right?”
“Exactly”
“The only thing I recommend is our “Weight Loss Black Ops” program. We have over 100 people participating and just about every single person is seeing fabulous results”
“Okay, so where do I start…”
“Well, the first thing you need to do is forget everything you think you know about weight loss”
“Okay, that obviously seems a little difficult… but doable.”
“Next, I want you to think about this statement and come in tomorrow at 5:30 for your first session…”
Â
“Whenever you are trying to accomplish something, it’s never about the”how”… it’s about the “why”
 Â
And of course, she told me what she thought the next day in her first seesion and I naturally told her what it really meant… after all, that’s part of our success with the program.
